The best argument for a technology initiative is made in the business case. But key to good business cases is qualitative and quantitative data about the cost of a security technology project's entire life cycle and the strategic impact it will have on meaningful business or security processes.

This session will cover the elements of a good business case and the impact TCO and ROI can have in that argument.

The key is to analyze the value a potential security investment could bring to the organization -- how does this investment make our business better, rather than to only analyze the price -- and what will this cost us?

We will cover how to calculate cost reduction, customer satisfaction, productivity improvement and contributions to profits and earnings. Then balance those with the value statements to create a winning business case.
TCO is about the entire cost and ROI is about the entire benefit. Value is how we do things better.

This session will build on information gathered in Managing the costs and Benefits of Security as well as Business Drivers and Your Security Program.

This session builds on the following workshop preparation materials:

  • Checklist: TCO and ROI
  • Report: RBCS Security Industry Report
