Told from a practitioner's viewpoint, this session presents the full spectrum of Physical Security and IT convergence from multiple perspectives:
  • Historical: why we are still playing catch-up with convergence
  • Technological: why many practitioners are not reaping the full benefits convergence offers, and how you can
  • Tactical: how to benefit from in-house convergence resources
  • Strategic: the correct management-level perspective on convergence
  • Immediate: how to start benefitting from convergence without spending any money

Most articles on "convergence" talk about one of two aspects: information technology being incorporated into physical security systems (especially IP [Internet Protocol] enabled systems and devices), or physical and information security converging.

Actually there are four major aspects to convergence, each with its own set of stakeholders and benefits.

There are very significant benefits—some free and almost immediate—that can be obtained from utilizing the various aspects of convergence. This session addresses the full spectrum of convergence, including what you need to know about it, and how to start getting benefits from it right away.

Ray Bernard is the most highly-published writer on convergence, and has authored more than 30 published articles on various aspects of convergence. Hear first-hand how he has helped dozens of corporations to get into the convergence driver's seat.

This session builds on the following workshop preparation materials:

  • Worksheet: Security Convergence
  • Report: RBCS Security Industry Report
  • White Paper: Ten Rules for Putting Your Physical Security Systems
onto the Corporate Network (for the Physical/Corporate Security Department)
  • White Paper: Twelve Ways to Address the Risks from Putting
Physical Security Systems on Your Corporate Network (for the IT Department)
Note: You may download the two white papers at any time from the home page of GSO 2010 sponsor Intransa. They are listed as "How Physical Security Can Transition to IT" and "How IT Can Support Security 'Going IT'
